HSP60 has been implicated in chronic inflammatory disease pathogenesis, including chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), but the mechanisms by which this chaperonin would act are poorly understood. A number of studies suggest a role for extracellular HSP60, since it can be secreted from cells and bind Toll-like receptors; however, the effects of this stimulation have never been extensively studied. Artykuł stanowi omówienie propozycji bloku zajęć adresowanych do studentów obcojęzycznych, którego celem jest wzmocnienie kompetencji językowych, ale także przybliżenie sylwetek kilku znaczących reprezentantów polskiej sceny muzycznej: Czesława Niemena, Agnieszki Osieckiej, Wojciecha Młynarskiego, Kabaretu Starszych Panów. W założeniu ma to służyć podniesieniu motywacji cudzoziemców do nauki języka polskiego. Anandamide-induced apoptosis in Chang liver cells involves ceramide and JNK/AP-1 pathway

In the present study we demonstrate that anandamide, the most important endogenous cannabinoid, markedly induced apoptosis in Chang liver cells, an immortalized non-tumor cell line derived from normal liver tissue, while it induced only modest effects in a number of hepatoma cell lines. The apoptotic effect was reduced by methyl-beta-cyclodextrin, a membrane cholesterol depletor, suggesting an interaction between anandamide and the membrane microdomains named lipid rafts. Abstract The paper discusses contemporary Polish humor which features references to Chinese language and culture. Together with the ideological, political, financial and economic visibility of China, its presence in Polish humorous discourse is on the rise. Jokes, cabaret sketches and visual materials, such as memes, more and more frequently use the Chinese as targets for entertaining the audience. The article will analyze the instances of Polish humorous discourse (largely Internet memes) to show which are the most frequent specific stereotypes about the Chinese and how that relates to Davies’s models of target choice. Oxidative stress inhibits IFN-α-induced antiviral gene expression by blocking the JAK–STAT pathway

Abstract BACKGROUND/AIMS: Unresponsiveness to IFN-alpha is common in chronic hepatitis C. Since conditions associated with an increased oxidative stress (advanced age, steatosis, fibrosis, iron overload, and alcohol consumption) reduce the likelihood of response, we hypothesized that oxidative stress may affect the antiviral actions of IFN-alpha. METHODS: We examined in a human hepatocellular carcinoma cell line (Huh-7) the effect of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2), as a generator of oxidative stress, on the IFN-alpha signaling pathway. Maģistra darba ietvaros tiek veikts pētījums un veidots koptēls par Rīgas apkārtnes muižām, pamatojoties pedagoga, vēsturnieka, novadpētnieka J.K.Broces zīmētajiem, aprakstītajiem un apkopotajiem materiāliem no 1771. gada līdz 1818. gadam, kas tika publicēti krājumā 4 sējumos (1992-2007). Darbā tiek izmantoti pirmie 2 sējumi, kuros atspoguļota Rīga un tās tuvākā apkārtne. 18. gs. beigās un 19. gs. sākumā spilgta tendence bija muižu straujais pieaugums. Tās kalpoja īpašnieku prestižam, atpūtai, saimnieciskai darbībai un ekonomiskai izaugsmei.
